Sponsor Letter

“Books aren’t something one approves or disapproves of; they are to be understood, interpreted, learned from, shocked by, argued with, and enjoyed.”

So says Michael Dirda, author and Pulitzer Prize-winning columnist for the Washington Post Book World. Yet, in the last two years over 3500 books have been “removed” (banned) in Florida schools alone, restricting the rights of our children to experience great and meaningful literature. We want to change that!  Thus, on February 24, 2024, the Unitarian Universalist Church of Venice (UUCOV) will partner with the Social Justice Alliance of the Florida Suncoast to sponsor the Right to Read Festival: All Books for All People.

Our mission for this Festival is to:

  • Promote productive discussions about intellectual freedom and censorship

  • Support librarians, teachers, authors, publishers, booksellers, and readers opposed to censorship

  • Foster a society that embraces diversity of thought, encourages critical thinking, and upholds constitutional rights promoting freedom for all.

The Festival will include authors, speakers, merchandise and food vendors, entertainment, and children’s activities, all to emphasize the importance of reading and the need for the freedom to exercise that right. The event will take place from 10 AM to 4 PM on the UUCOV grounds at the corner of Edmundson and Pinebrook Roads.

Please consider becoming a sponsor of the Festival to show your support for this important endeavor. The sponsorship levels and benefits are listed below. We hope that you will accept this invitation to be among our Festival’s benefactors. See the Sponsorship Levels.

Thank you for your attention and support,

Members of the Social Justice Alliance of the Florida Suncoast
